HB 2037 requires that students who were expelled, suspended, or removed from school due violence or mental health issues be assessed by an independent, private, third-party mental health professional before the student is readmitted into school. The mental health professional is a psychologist or psychiatrist the student has not received treatment from in currently or in the past. When the child is mentally healthy, he/she may return to school. This bill takes effect July 1, 2015.
HB 2037 was heard in the House Education Committee on Feb. 16th, but did not come up for a vote and therefore is dead.
