SB 6383 establishes a Governor’s Council  to be accountable, measure and complete a comprehensive coordinated project with private and public organizations that have work underway, and to guide and inform activities and offer small grants to expand effective programs or innovative incentives like rewards for kids in school for meeting physical fitness and healthy eating goals, and choices for our children that have demonstrated to work to help children be more active and healthy.

The role of the Governor’s Council, as well as advisory committees, are articulated. SB 6383 also establishes a strategic work group that will develop and submit recommendations to the governor related to the impact of childhood obesity, opportunities for partnerships, prevention of childhood obesity, policies and funding, additional action steps, and more.

The Council and Strategic Work Group shall identify goals and benchmarks, such as, an increase in the number of infants who are breastfed for at least 6 months, and percent of 10th graders with a healthy weight.
