Symptoms of behavior problems and depression were studied in youth from neighborhoods high rates of delinquent behavior. Youth with symptoms of depression had a higher risk of behavior problems; and those with higher rates of disruptive behavior were at increased risk for depression. However, only a small number of the young people had high rates of both depression and disruptive behaviors over time. Implications are explored for the design of prevention and treatment programs for at risk youth.
